Galaxy Groups and very Far Away Things
Abell 194 Galaxy Cluster: Oct 21-28 Atoka, OK using Astro-Tech AT-130 refractor, QSI-583 WSG b/w camera with Meade DSI attached for guiding.  AstroDon Gen2 I-series LRGB filters and Astro-Tech Field Flattener all mounted on SkyWatcher EQ-6 Hypertuned Mount. Images captured, calibrated, DDP, aligned and combined in MaxIm DL, Post processed in PhotoShop CS2. (c) 2011 Max Corneau Abell 194 Galaxy Cluster: Oct 21-28 Atoka, OK Same image as left but inverted in PhotoShop to reveal galaxies more clearly  This stunning cluster contains approx. 4,700 galaxies within a 2-deg radius from center and over 10,000 at 4-deg. Chapman's cannonical study of A194 provides compelling data that the mean radial velocity is 5,396Km/s, given the Hubble constant of 65 Km/s/Mc, this  indicates a distance of 265 MLY which is similar to the Perseus Cluster.  I hate it when "sciencey" things are similar...makes me question the data.  Most are available from the 2MASS and can be analyzed with the APMUKS, although they lack radial velocity data. There is considerable debate over what constitutes the "center" of this cluster but an average (Gaussian smoothing) appears to land near NGC 541 which is just fine by me for this is the iconic home of Minkowski's Object!.
